Dominic Candido, Ph.D., ACT
LICCT's Founder & Director Emeritus
Dr. Candido, a licensed psychologist, founded LICCT in 1991 following his pre- and post-doctoral training at the Center for Cognitive Therapy in NYC with Robert Leahy, Ph.D. He went on to complete post-doctoral training at the Center for Cognitive Therapy, University of Pennsylvania with Aaron Beck, MD, the originator of cognitive therapy. He was later certified in Panic Control Treatment and Related Anxiety Disorders by David Barlow, Ph.D., at the Center for Stress and Anxiety Disorders, University at Albany. Dr. Candido has attained certification as a Cognitive Therapist by and is a Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, the premier international body of recognition for CT practitioners. He is a certified Disaster Mental Health Provider for the American Red Cross and the long-time Nassau Coordinator of the NYS Psychological Association Disaster Response Network. He was a Clinical Instructor of Psychology in Psychiatry at the University at Stony Brook School of Medicine and a member of its University Hospital medical staff, and taught and supervised clinical psychology doctoral students from Hofstra University, Long Island University/CW Post and Yeshiva University. He has presented numerous seminars and symposia on CT theory and practice and has written and consulted in the area of psychological trauma. Dr Candido has moved to the Dartmouth Medical School where he is running a Psychiatry Clinic, but maintains close relationships with his friends at the Center.

The following two individuals have agreed to be available to LICCT staff for consultation on difficult cases and to keep LICCT informed about cutting edge cognitive-behavioral research.
Arthur M. Nezu, Ph.D., ABPP is currently Professor of Psychology, Medicine, and Community Health and Prevention at Drexel University in Philadelphia. An award-winning psychologist, he was previously President of the Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy, the Behavioral Psychology Specialty Council, the World Congress of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and the American Board of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology. In addition to his current position as Secretary of the Board of Trustees for the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), he is also a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, the Society of Behavior Medicine, the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, and the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology. Dr. Nezu has an active private practice since 1980, is board certified in cognitive and behavioral psychology, and is currently conducting treatment outcome studies in medical psychology. He has contributed to over 190 publications, including 20 books, concerning a wide range of topics, several of which have been translated into a variety of foreign languages. Dr. Nezu currently serves on several editorial boards of both scientific and professional psychology and was the previous editor of the Behavior Therapist. He is perhaps best known for his contributions as co-developer of Problem-Solving Therapy, a cognitive-behavioral intervention, co-author of the Social Problem-Solving Inventory, a widely used measure of real-life problem solving, and co-developer of a model of cognitive-behavioral case formulation.
Christine Maguth Nezu, Ph.D., ABPP is Professor of Psychology and Associate Professor of Medicine at Drexel University, where she held previous positions as the Associate Provost for Research and Director of an APA-accredited Internship at Hahnemann University Hospital. She is currently President of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), a member of the Board of Directors for the American Board of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology, and a Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Dr. Nezu has maintained a private professional psychology practice specializing in cognitive and behavioral psychology for over 20 years and has co-edited/authored over 125 scholarly publications, including 16 books. Her publications cover a wide range of topics in mental health and behavioral medicine, many of which have been translated into a variety of foreign languages. She conducts applied research in several areas of clinical psychology and behavioral medicine, with particular emphasis on developing empirically supported treatments for individuals with depression, various medical disorders, such as cancer patients and persons with cardiovascular disease, personality disorder, and special populations. She is board certified in cognitive and behavioral psychology.
